Powerlifting Watch Upgrades Server-Updates:
by Jon
Due to the increase in traffic to Powerlifting Watch, for the second time this year we were forced to upgrade to a more powerful server. With over 1.1 million pages served up every month, the site was both running slower and running out of space. The server move now should be complete. I apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced during the move. However, the result is that you should now experience faster page loading times and a better viewing experience.
Thank you to all of the Powerlifting Watch sponsors for their help in making this move possible. Also, thank you to the contributors, collaborators, and visitors for helping grow the site into what it is today. Stay tuned as even more features are about to be launched, with others planned for 2009.
Fantasy Leader Board-
The 2008 Fantasy Leaderboard has been updated. TeamIvanko has surged to first place with 1,605 points. Super purple monkey dishwasher jumps to second scoring 1,320 points. Tower of Power remains in third place with 1,315 points.
The Fantasy season ends on December 7. Upcoming major events include 100% RAW Bench Worlds, WNPF Worlds, WPC Worlds, IPA Nationals, AAU Single Lift Worlds, and RAW United Worlds.

Information on Parking for the Novmber 22nd USAPL Maryland State Powerlifting Championships
According to the meet director, Garrett Jacks, the Navy Wrestling Classic is also going on inside Halsey Field house at the same time as this Saturday's powerlifting meet. This means that parking is going to be nonexistent due to the fact that wrestling gets priority over powerlifting (at the Naval Academy, Wrestling is varsity...powerlifting is club). It is advised that people park somewhere down the street from Gate 1, or in downtown Annapolis. The parking situation was discussed with senior leadership at Navy and that was what was advised.
For entry into Gate 1, walking or driving, everyone must have valid identification (driver's license).
Maps and Directions are on this web page:USAPL Maryland
Also, stay tuned for flights. I hope to post that information in a few days (if not sooner).

2008 IPF Worlds- Pictures
George Marts has published a gallery of pictures taken at the 2008 IPF World Powerlifting Championships that were held in St. Johns, Canada during the week of November 2 -8.
It's a Boy!
Congratulations goes out to John and Kerry Self on the birth of their son, John Robert Self. Baby John arrived weighing-in at 8 lbs and 21 in tall!
Note from John;
The Good news is we had our baby boy Nov 3.
John Robert Self... 8 lbs 21 in.
He is awesome! He is such a good baby. Mommy and him are doing great.
Kerry cant wait to get in the gym and start training again.
The bad new is I wont be at 100% RAW worlds bench. I was doing great and right on track with my training. Looking to set some new PR this year at the meet. But I wrecked on my bike at a BMX race. Hurt my hand/thumb. I cant bench with it.
I did win a moto that night.
Hope to see some of ya soon at one of the meets this year.

Hope to see some of ya soon at one of the meets this year.

2009 USAPL Women's Nationals;
2009 Women's Nationals
February 14 & 15, 2009
Miami, FL
Robert Keller (meet director) has released the following information;
Dear USAPL Member:
The 27th USAPL Women's National Powerlifting Championships will be held Saturday/Sunday, February 14 & 15, 2009 at the Hyatt Hotel, in downtown Miami, Florida. An application for the event can be found here: www.usaplnationals.com/2009-wome... index.html
I would like to begin by stating the volunteers of USA Powerlifting – Florida are very excited about hosting this year’s championship.
I have placed this year's championship in a location with the highest possible degree of activities for you and your family members. The hotel and venue are located just 10 minutes away from both South Beach and Bayside Marketplace -- two of the most popular attractions Miami has to offer. Information pertaining to these two “Hot” tourist spots can be found at the following web-links: South Side Beach and Bayside Marketplace
The equipment for the championship will be of international calibre, and will include six [6] ER/Combo squat/bench press racks from Denmark, and six [6] sets of calibrated Ivanko bars/weights. This equipment will be used both on the competition platform and in the warm-up area. A computerized scoring system shall be used to direct and calculate the individual and team scoring for the championship. The Florida Gulf Coast University Powerlifting Team will be handle the spotting/loading and are the fastest and best loaders in the game.
Key and important, the championship will be drug-tested in accordance with USAPL/IPF standards. IPF Referees will be in attendance for lifters to set both World and American records. In addition, if you require powerlifting gear, commercial sellers will be available with the most up-to-date equipment to accommodate your specific needs.
As a kind and gentle reminder, please be aware of the deadlines AND Group Code, to make your hotel reservations. It is VERY important that you make your reservations early, as this is high season for tourism in Miami! The competition will be held on President's Day Weekend, which are the same dates as the Miami International Boat Show [largest in the world], so if you miss the deadline, locating a hotel room, in and outside of Miami, for a reasonable price, will be quite difficult.
Information pertaining to the boat show can be found here: Miami Boat Show
If you have any questions regarding this championship, or if I can be of further assistance, I can be reached via e-mail: rhk@verizon.net or by: 954.790.2249 -- I am here to answer all of your questions.
To close, on behalf of USA Powerlifting, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you much success with your training for this competition and look forward to seeing you at the championship in Miami!
Sincere regards,
Robert Keller

The Virginia Powerlifting Report 11/5/08
Captain Kirk For the HOF!
The news that USA's Mike Bridge was inducted into the IPF's Hall of Fame is great news that has come out of the '08 meeting of the IPF Congress. But, it has me wondering; what about the Michael Jordan of powerlifting, Kirk Karwoski?
In reviewing the notables currently in the HOF and not including the class of '08, 19 officials, 7 women (1 has been disqualified) and 12 men have received that honor and recognition.
The following guidelines for selection are posted at the IPF website;
There shall be an honorary body titled the "IPF Hall of Fame". Its purpose shall be to honour members who have made an outstanding contribution either by way of lifting achievement or service in general to the sport of powerlifting internationally. A maximum of two lifters and one official may be elected to the Hall of Fame each year but with the added proviso that not more than two men and one woman may be elected in any one year. A certificate of achievement will be awarded. No one who has been involved in drug offences or has been suspended by drug abuse shall be proposed to Hall of Fame. Any lifter or official previously awarded Hall of Fame will loose this distinction if suspended by IPF due to doping abuse.
The Executive decides prior to the IPF Congress, after having received bids from the member nations, whom will be awarded Hall of Fame. The appointed person(s) will be honoured at the Congress.
When I think about how this sport was built on the exploits and accomplishments of lifters, it causes me to wonder why there is such a disproportionate number of officials in the HOF to that of lifters. And why there isn't a greater effort to make sure that at least a lifter is inducted into the HOF each year.

Powerlifting Watch- Money Meets
Powerlifting Watch has created a new page where information for Money Meets can be found.
From Jon- Powerlifting Watch:
In response to visitor requests, I've added a new sub-section to Powerlifting Watch which will list powerlifting meets which offer prize money. The new Money Meets is a sub-section of the Powerlifting Meets section and will include meets with at least $1,000 in prize money. Meet directors should note the total prize money which will be awarded in their meet listing to be considered for this section.
As this is a new section, there may be some meets that will offer prize money which are not yet listed. Please email me with that information and I'll get your meet added. When submitting a new meet, please note the total prize money and, if possible, the prize money distribution.
Money meets will also be listed in the regular Upcoming Meets section.
I hope this section proves to be helpful to both competitors and fans alike.
IPF News:
New Look website- In launching their new look website, the IPF has issued the following statement;
The delegates of the IPF congress 2009 voted for a facelifting of their international federation at 2nd November in St. John's/Canada. They’ve given the IPF Executive Committee encouragement on its way to reestablish the International Powerlifting Federation to a modern and more valuable brand.
Directly after the confirmation for a new logo, the General Assembly was presented a new website. IPF President Detlev Albrings explained: “After my election as new president one year ago in Soelden/Austria, our executive team started to work very close with a German agency for communication management. Its CIO and head consultant Patrick Ries, formerly also active in Olympic sports management, pointed us how valuable our sport is in reality. We’ve known that powerlifting is a great sport by our own for a longer time. But know we’re going forward on a good way to show it more and attentively to public as well as to evolve the organisation of our communication, championship management and sponsoring more professional.”
The official kick off is set with the new logo and the new website. Next steps will follow to improve the internal and external communication via website, newsletter and IPF magazine “The International Powerlifter”.
USAPL News:
Arnold Sports Festival (March 6-8, 2009, Columbus, OH)- Rankings have been finalized for the following events; Titan Pro Bench, GNC Pro Deadlift and Con-Cret Raw Challenge. The Quest Invitational and International lifters will be finalized after the completion of Open Worlds.
