Virginia Powerlifting returns!
My apologies for not keeping up with this site...,
From Maryland Powerlifting:
Why raw? There seems to be greater demand today for access to meets where lifters can choose to lift raw. Yet despite the demand and the practical reasoning which supports it, there seems to be a great resistance to accomodating those lifters. And each time the subject comes up on message boards or forums, instead of a productive discussion, those who seemingly prefer the status quo either blows it off as another whiny raw lifter or assumes that it is just another effort at "bashing of gear" being perpetuated by another instigator. While it is common to find attacks made by "annonymous" writers on both sides of this issue, it is evident that when productive discussion concerning legitimizing raw lifting is sought that the thread flows into a twisted philosophical menagerie. The ongoing "open for all to see" legitagtion waged between both sides leaves one to wonder why bother inquiring at all. The discussion becomes knotted or stalemated in a literal tug of war. It is hoped that the answer won't be found whether to legitimize raw lifting or not settled on forums and message boards. And perhaps that is where we'll find the ultimate demise of raw lifting, settled out of court with no real opportunity given to take it's rightfull place in the world of powerlifting. Because, unless this matter is presented in a more productive manner to those who can make a difference, an opportunity could be lost. Now is the time to be organized, prepare proposals and submit them to the federation leaders for consideration. Don't give up the cause due to faceless detractors. Discuss this topic
Raw Dog Down: It was reported at the RAW Powerlifting message board by Shawn Lyte that Raw Dog leader John Self was striken with diverticulitis on Monday, May 21.
In a follow-up message, John Self explained:
Here is how it went down.
My belly started hurting VERY BAD Friday night. So I tuffed it out Saturday and did some legs. I thought it was just a torn muscle or something.
Sunday I had to rush to the emergency room. The pain was just to much. I could not hardly walk.I was in the Hospital all night Sunday because of my belly pain. After all the needle poking, I V's, YES THEY PUT A I V IN ME! drinking medicine crap, and Testing with the Cat scan.....They found out what's wrong.I got some tears/diverticulitis in my colon. IM on a liquid diet for a few days. And two kinds of antibiotics for two weeks. Here is the bad part. I am not supposed to do any active stuff or lifting for at least 2-3 weeks! Said it could tear more. This is to let the colon heal. Kinda like a muscle.
Hope to see you guys at the Nationals.
GOD Bless.

From Larry Maile:
All,
Here are the members of the Arnold Sports Festival Planning Committee. I had originally hoped that they not be immediately identified because they have a lot of work to do and I am driving them into the ground right now. I would like for them to complete much of the sponsorship and planning activities before they die the death of a thousand emails.
I chair this ad hoc committee.
Johnny Graham, USAPL V.P., logistics and meet organization.
Lance Slaughter, USAPL E.C., marketing and sponsorship.
Geoff Plante, USAPL Treasurer, budget and sponsorship liaison.
Sherman Ledford, Georgia State Chair, Men's National Team Coach, Promoter, Quest Invitational.
Rick Fowler, Production and entertainment aspects.
Robert Keller, USAPL Technical Committee Chair.
Brad Gillingham, elite athlete member of the committe and sponsor relations, research on lifts and lifters.
Priscilla Ribic, webmaster, professional project manager, elite athlete representative.
Please do not wear them out with quesions. Information will be on the website as it is available, and I am working them to death right now on behind the scenes issues.
Thanks, LJM
